What to expect from our therapy sessions
At the start of our therapy sessions, we discuss your personal challenges & struggles and what you would like to get out of therapy. Maybe you have a specific issue that you want to work on or maybe you don't know exactly - you might just have a general feeling of unhappiness or dissatisfaction with your relationships. You will have the space to reflect and explore this. The first few sessions are usually where we "set the stage", build trust & get a better understanding of what's going on for you.

In the following sessions, we explore in more depth your feelings and response patterns - their past origins, purpose, triggers and how they are affecting you now. Together we try to make sense of them. This is usually what traditional counselling and therapy does - regardless of whether it's psychodynamic, person-centred, existential or any other modality.

Whenever you're ready and if you are looking to enact certain changes in your life, we support you through this process. Together, we figure out what you find helpful, what works for your particular circumstances and how to make it "stick". This is how we turn some of the insights into tangible change that you can see on a day-to-day basis (and this is usually what more "active" types of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused therapy, and life coaching, focus on).

We close out the sessions by making sure that you have enough tools to do this process independently in your own life. At this stage, you might choose to stay in therapy long-term, but at a reduced frequency. Some clients choose this option not because they can't problem solve alone, but because they like the continuous and consistent support that therapy offers - after all, life is a never-ending stream of challenges, which we have to continuously adapt to.
The above is an integrative therapy approach called Personal Consultancy. Find out more about personal consultancy here.
